26 January 1918 Nicolae Andruta Ceausescu was born in southwestern Romania.
1932 Nicolae Ceausescu joins the Romanian Workers Party.
23 November 1933 Ceausescu is first arrested for rousing a strike and distributing pamphlets against state order.
June 1934 Ceausescu is arrested a second time for collecting signatures against the Craiova trial of the Grivisa railroad workers.
August 1934 Ceausescu is jailed for a third and fourth time. At this point, he is described as a "dangerous communist agitator" and an "active distributor of communist and anti-fascist propaganda" in his police file.
1935 Ceausescu is exiled to Scornicesti, but ultimately returns to Bucharest.
July 1940 Ceausescu is sent to Jilava prison for political organizing.
26-27 November 1940 Iron Guard attack on Jilava prison kills 64 prisoners, but Communists are saved, because they are protected by prison guards, whom they had radicalized. Ceausescu is seen as responsible for this.
August 1943 Transferred to concentration camp at Tirgu.
August 1943 Released from the concentration camp at Tirgu Jiu and appointed head of Union of Communist Youth.
1945 Appointed Brigadier General of the Romanian Army
1946 Nicolae Ceausescu and Elena Petrescu marry.
March 1948 Elected to Grand National assembly. Becomes candidate member of Party Central Committee. His son, Valentin, becomes a part of a Romanian Workers Party.
1950 Nicolae’s daughter, Zoia, is born.
1 September 1951 Nicolae’s son, Nicu, is born.
May 1952 Promoted to full member of Central Committee of RWP by Gheorghe-Dej.
22 March 1965 Ceausescu succeedes Gheorghe-Dej three days after his death as the elected First Secretary of Romanian Communist Party
16 December 1989 Riots break out in Timisoara. Many people are killed as a result.
21 December 1989 100,000 people gather outside Central Committee Building. Ceausescu attempts to give speech. Eight minutes into speech, crowd begins chanting "Timisoara!" and "Down with the murderers!"
22 December 1989 Nicolae and his wife, Elena, flee the capital, but the army stands on the side of the revolutionaries. They are later taken into custody.
22-25 December 1989 Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu are imprisoned.
25 December 1989 Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu are put on trial and ultimately brutally executed by a firing squad.
